A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center reveals a startling number of Americans on both sides of the political aisle support military action against Russia in Ukraine – even if it means nuclear war.
This survey offers a variety of scenarios for how the United States might react or intervene in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Eighty five percent of respondents support maintaining strict economic sanctions on Russia. While 77 percent support military presence in NATO’s surrounding nations, and 69 per cent support welcoming Ukrainian refugees, only 82 percent are against.
The only thing that Americans don’t support is military action with a threat of nuclear warfare, although it still represents a significant majority considering all the possible consequences.
Over a third (35%) of Americans say they would favor military action “even if it risks a nuclear conflict with Russia.”

This poll is being conducted as some lawmakers call for Ukraine to be a no fly zone. If Ukraine were to become a direct conflict area with Russia, the poll will not take place.
Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), explained that a “no-fly” zone could cause direct conflict between the nuclear powers.
“It would be World War III,” she said. “And I don’t think that’s in the best interest of NATO, our partners and allies and friends.”
Over a third of Americans according to the Pew Research Survey believe that’s a risk they’re willing to take.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres earlier this week told reporters, “The prospect of nuclear conflict, once unthinkable, is now back within the realm of possibility.”

The Pew survey notes that more Americans approve of President Biden’s handling of the Russian invasion of Ukraine than disapprove (47-39%), even as his overall job approval is under water (43% approve, 55% disapprove).
42% of Americans believe the U.S. should support Ukraine more, and only 7% think it provides too much.
Volodymyr Zilenskyy (Ukraine President) suggested in an interview that World War III could have begun.

“Nobody knows whether it may have already started. What is the likelihood of war with Ukraine if it falls? It’s very hard to say,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that the outcome of this war puts the “whole civilization at stake.”
