Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann accused Tucker Carlson and decorated Iraq War veteran and former Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard of being “Russian assets” who need to be arrested by the military.
Olbermann’s commentary represent an unhinged level that, perhaps not surprisingly, were not limited to him.
The liberal pundit was responding to a video of panelists on “The View” who, earlier in the day, suggested Carlson and Gabbard be investigated by the Department of Justice.
“I think DOJ, in the same way that is setting up a task force to investigate [Russian] oligarchs, should look into people who are Russian propagandists and shilling for Putin,” host Ana Navarro said. “If you are a foreign asset to a dictator it should be investigated.”
The conversation was initiated based on a reportedly leaked memo from the Kremlin suggesting Russia “use as much as possible fragments of broadcasts of the popular Fox News host Tucker Carlson.”
Red Scare: @CNN‘s Ana Navarro just called for a DOJ Task Force to investigate @TuckerCarlson @TulsiGabbard for being “foreign agents” of Russia.
This is not an exercise in futility. They are determined to use America’s federal government to suppress all forms of dissent. pic.twitter.com/OtIup3ZAON

Most people wouldn’t be shocked to see someone suggesting that a political pundit, veterans, or private citizens should be investigated by DOJ. However, Keith Olbermann stepped up his rhetoric and called for communist, Fascist, or totalitarian measures.
“They are Russian Assets and there is a war,” he alleged. “There’s a case for detaining them militarily. Trials are a sign of good faith and patience on the part of democracy.”
These are Russian assets and there’s a war. There’s a case for detaining them militarily. Democracies should hold trials as a symbol of their faith and perseverance.

If you are trying to imitate dictators such as Vladimir Putin, there is no reason to detain people objecting to war (the U.S. does not participate in one), or to question the government.
It is absurd that left-wing lunatics would suggest the Federal Government should ban free speech, or the Military should prosecute people with different views in order to commit war crimes.
1) Pretty sure we aren’t at war with russia.
2) Weren’t the alien and sedition acts ruled unconstitutional?— Rob Eno (@Robeno) March 15, 2022

Common Cause With Mitt Romney
Yes, nothing quite promotes ‘democracy’ like calling for using the military against people who express different political beliefs.
We expect Olbermann to use this rhetoric, but it shows how close the GOP’s far-left and supposedly more centered RINOs are.
There isn’t much difference between what Olbermann said and what Senator Mitt Romney charged Gabbard with earlier in the week.
Romney accused Gabbard of being a Russian asset and spreading “treasonous lies” after she claimed there are “U.S. funded” bio labs in Ukraine that could be a very real danger if targeted in war.
Tulsi Gabrield lies to the Russians. These lies could endanger lives.

Gabbard fired back later and demanded that Romney apologize for his actions and resign.
“Senator Romney, please provide evidence that what I said is untrue and treasonous,” she insisted. “If you cannot, you should do the honorable thing: apologize and resign from the Senate.”
You have two choices, Senator Romney: you can continue to deceive the truth, or you can admit that you’re wrong and apologize.
Aloha.
Remember that truth is the only way to be safe and free.

Romney is also in common with Peter Strzok (a disgraced FBI agent), who suggested that Carlson and Gabbard were Russian propagandists.
And here’s the disgraced, fired ex-FBI agent @PeteStrzok joining the McCarthyite orgy by casually implying Tulsi & Tucker are Kremlin propagandists.
Ironically, Strzok contested his firing by arguing his anti-Trump mania was “protected political speech”:https://t.co/F6mFBLLWlv

One could argue that Strzok has been more aggressive against the United States government’s interests than anyone else.
You’d think the guy who pushed for fraudulent surveillance warrants on Carter Page would be a bit more hesitant about suggesting foreign collusion https://t.co/CKqB7v6jKg

Olbermann declared his retirement from political commentary in 2017.
“I’ve made my point,” he said. “I’d like to go back and enjoy some of my life again.”
This was clearly a short-lived retirement.
He reportedly requested to sit in for MSNBC host Rachel Maddow while she is on hiatus but, according to the Daily Beast, Maddow “stepped in to personally veto him as her successor.”
