French new law requires car advertising to encourage people to carpool or take public transportation to reach their destination. This law, which is part of the government’s effort to lower carbon emissions, is based upon previous laws that required food and beverage ads to promote healthy eating. Advertisers will be fined €50,000 ($56,000 U.S.) for each ad that does not contain such a message.
