Joe Biden, in an address to the nation today asked the question: “How concerned should we become about the COVID-19 variant of the Omicron coronavirus?” We should be worried about the omicron variant of COVID-19 coronavirus, but we shouldn’t panic. “If you’re not completely vaccinated, it is a reason to be concerned,” Biden correctly stated. Biden noted that nearly every American victim of COVID-19 infected death within the last year was not vaccinated.
Biden admitted that the coronavirus variant omicron is very contagious, and could cause many breakthrough infections in people who have been vaccinated. Biden did stress that the evidence suggests that people who have had breakthrough infections after vaccination are far less likely than those who don’t get vaccinated to die or become seriously ill.
Biden highlighted that 90 million Americans who are eligible for vaccination have not yet been vaccinated in July. This number is now down to 40million. Biden stated that people who have been fully vaccinated can still enjoy the holiday with friends and family members who have also been vaccinated. Biden explained, “I received my booster shots as quickly as I could, and the former President Trump declared that he has also had his booster shot.”
Biden said that the U.S. will not return to March 2020. This was when the majority of the country had been locked down since the start of the pandemic. Is it possible? The fact that 200 million Americans have been vaccinated means that the system has the ability to provide care for those in need. Officials also know how to safeguard K-12 students to ensure they don’t shut down schools.
Biden also outlined additional steps that his administration has taken to combat the omicron waves. In the United States, 10,000 more vaccinations are being provided and there will be 20,000 additional free testing locations. The federal government will also purchase half a million COVID-19 at-home tests, which will be free for households starting January. It will not be enough to stop the American omicron wave, however..Additional 1,000 military personnel will be deployed to places where the hospitals have already been overwhelmed by COVID-19-infected patients.
Biden was visibly upset and stated: “Look, unvaccinated people are responsible to their choices. But those choices have been fuelled by dangerous misinformation from cable TV, social media, and other sources.” He said, “These personalities and companies are making money through lying and permitting misinformation that could kill their customers or their supporters.” Biden said that it was wrong and immoral. I call on the purveyors of these lies and misinformation, stop it. This must be stopped immediately.
