Virginia Just Overturned The School Mask Mandate That Helped Flip The State Red

Old Dominion has gotten rid of mask mandates at schools.

Glenn Youngkin, Governor of Kentucky has approved SB739 which prohibits schools from imposing mask mandates.

The Virginia Republican-controlled House of Delegates passed the bill to make masks optional in schools after the Democrat-controlled State Senate passed the bill on a bipartisan vote.

After Republicans won the elections for Lt. Governor and Governor, this stunning reverse occurs. Governor, and Attorney General last year, largely on now-Governor Youngkin’s platform of greater parental control over education choices.

Bye-Bye Mask Mandates

The fact that the bill was passed by a Democrat-controlled Senate shows how fast COVID restrictions have been loosened in response to political pressure.

Republicans control the state’s House of Delegates by just four seats, but the vote in that chamber went down on a party-line.

Schools have until March 1st to adhere to the law, which goes into effect immediately.

The Battle is not over

The battle is not over even after bipartisan agreement.

Youngkin had already signed an executive order of the same nature, however, the Loudoun County school district refused to enforce it. A group of parents sued Youngkin.

Loudoun County was the center of many of the school-related political fights over critical race theory and masking that led Youngkin to the White House.

The parents who have brought the lawsuit against the Loudoun County School District say that, by defying the Governor’s executive order, the district is “denying an adequate education” to their children, and “defying a lawful public health directive.”

Breitbart has just reported that Youngkin was granted permission by a judge to participate in the Loudoun County suit on behalf of the parents.

The entire suit could be settled with the signing this bill.

Democrats abandon COVID restrictions

Across the nation, Democrat-run regions and blue states are dropping COVID restrictions like mandates for indoor masks.

NBC News reports that half of all state mask mandates have fallen in just the last three weeks – in places like California, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, and others.

Though – many of those states are still requiring masks in schools.

Many speculate that Democrats’ sudden change of heart is due to political pressures, especially the coming midterm elections.

The New York Times, of all places, broke it down in this manner:

These decisions were driven by the increasing number of voters who are willing to accept the virus for what it is, as well as political calculations regarding the upcoming midterm elections which already put Democrats on alert.

However, it remains to be determined if the voters will retain enough information to allow them to afford it.
