Is there a libertarian case for vaccine mandates?
George Mason College Regulation Professor Ilya Somin helps vaccine mandates in sure instances as a result of he believes they are a comparatively “small infringement on freedom” and are preferable to hurt discount methods like masks mandates and lockdowns, which he sees as posing a larger menace to our liberties.
Angela McArdle, the chair of the Libertarian Get together of Los Angeles County, says she’ll “actively work to destroy any establishment that tries to implement a vaccine passport,” and is at present launching authorized challenges to overturn vaccine mandates in California and New York.
On September 8, Somin and McArdle went head-to-head on the Soho Discussion board in New York Metropolis. Somin took the affirmative, and McArdle the damaging, on the decision: Whereas vaccine mandates are an infringement on freedom, some are justified because of their large payoff in lives saved.
