The Russian invasion exposed huge differences in the way politicians respond to threats.
When asked for evacuation, the Ukrainian president replied, “I need ammunition not a ride.” He’s a leader.
However, as a result of truckers staging a peaceful protest against COVID-19 rules in Canada, Justin Trudeau the Canadian Prime Minister felt so intimidated by them that he sought “an obscure location.” He invoked Canada’s Emergencies Act.
The authorities were able to break up protests by forcibly. One instance saw police riding into crowds on horses. People were trampled.
And as blatantly ridiculous as this was, it wasn’t the whole act. MostThe effective way to stop protest was to freeze protesters’ bank accounts.
This is similar to the West’s current treatment of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
But Trudeau did it to His own people!
Todd Zywicki from George Mason University says, “You don’t have to have money to live.” In my latest video.
“Imagine Martin Luther King losing his bank account in Civil Rights Era because he was seen at Woolworth’s counter”.
Cash was used by more people back then. Today, we depend on credit cards and banks.
Trudeau, who was easily scared, justified the Emergencies Act’s use by claiming that the truckers had received “disturbing amounts” of foreign funds to undermine Canada’s democracy.
Really? Are truckers going to “destabilize Canada’s democracy?”
Zywicki says, “I’m not sure why you’d say that it’s destabilizing democracy.” “ThIs is democracy. Canadians fighting for their rights.”
Unfortunately, this abuse of power does not occur in the United States.
But it is.
In 2013, Zywicki reminds us, “Companies engaged in completely legal services found themselves losing access to bank accounts…being forced to shut down.”
The Obama Administration launched Operation Choke Point which encouraged banks and financial institutions to close down accounts of pornographers or gambling companies, payday loan lenders, gun dealers, and any other business they did not like.
Gun dealer Kat O’Connor did everything the government demanded—filled out the paperwork, got federal and state licenses, paid hefty fees. However, she was suddenly stopped by online payment processors. Then, she tried Stripe, PayPal and Square. She told me that she received an email every time advising her to close my accounts. It was an attempt to control gun violence, she said.
It most likely was.
Choke Point was continued up until Donald Trump’s election.
O’Connor, however, is still on the blacklist. The bureaucrats could make your finances impossible to access if you’re labelled a problem by government.
That’s infuriating.
My job involves seeing the opposite side. Zywicki understood that banks were private companies lending money. They shouldn’t lend money to people they aren’t interested in. Privat businesses have the freedom to make any choice they want.
Zywicki provided a solid answer. There are many barriers that prevent you from entering. You have to get permission to start a new bank.…The financial services industry is so intertwined with government.”
This government-banking connection allows bureaucrats to regulate banks and shut down access to money for government critics. Canada’s protesters were able to resist the pressure of politicians and police for many weeks. However, once Trudeau had frozen their funds, it was the beginning to the end for their protest.
You aren’t really free if you allow governments to debank you.
Zywicki states, “We must be open to people speaking out against us and keep our livelihoods intact.” We’ve combined those two. It’s a huge threat to the freedom of society.
