Black Lives Matter Activist Indicted On 18 Counts OfFraud, Other Federal Charges

A Boston Black Lives Matter (BLM) activist who was once named “Bostonian of the year” and her husband have been indicted on federal fraud charges.

Clark Grant, Monica Cannon Grant’s husband and Monica Cannon Grant were charged with participating in a scheme that involved ripping off donors worth $185,000.

Federal Indictment

The 18-count federal Indictment includes charges against Grants. It also contains wire fraud and false statements to a lender. Cannon-Grant, the founder of a nonprofit called “Violence in Boston,” is being accused of using the non-profit as a slush fund.

The New York Post reported that the slush money was used to buy, rent, manicures and vacations.

According to The Daily Mail, the couple were also wrongly accused of collecting more than $30,000 for pandemic unemployment.

On Tuesday, the couple were arrested at their luxurious $450,000 house.

Activism pays

Monica Cannon Grant started Violence In Boston 2017 starting with $1,000.

In April 2020 it was worth $50,000. Cannon Grant began receiving a weekly salary in October 2020 of $2,788, but did not report the income. 

The salary of her was $25,000 in 2020 and $170,000 by 2021.

BLM has a history of financial questions

This isn’t the first time there have been eyebrows raised at the financial dealings made by prominent Black Lives Matter activist.

Patrice Khan-Cullors, founder of BLM was questioned over his purchase of four luxurious homes that were collectively valued at $3.2 million.

Khan-Cullors, who described herself as a Marxist and bought expensive homes in Los Angeles. Khan-Cullors was also challenged by BLM activists including Black Lives Matter Greater New York City’s head. Hawk Newsome.

Newsome demanded an investigation, saying,

“If you go around calling yourself a socialist, you have to ask how much of her own personal money is going to charitable causes. It’s really sad because it makes people doubt the validity of the movement and overlook the fact that it’s the people that carry this movement.”
