8 Out-of-the-Box Ideas to Celebrate a Teenager’s Birthday

Do you have a child who’s about to become a teen or a teenager with a birthday coming up? It might be difficult to come up with something original to do for the big occasion. If your teen is picky and wants to do something unique for their next birthday, be prepared with a list. You can talk to them about what they’ll enjoy. Consider celebrating in one of these unique ways.

1- Movie Theater VIP Fun

You can rent the space and services to have your teen and their friends and family watch a movie. They’re sure to feel super important that they have the whole space just for them. The theater may have a party package of dinner or snacks to offer or arrange to bring in your own if they allow it.

2- Get Away for the Weekend

Opt for a (supervised) weekend at a hotel out of town for your child and their friends. You can get a few rooms and stay in one next door to your teen and their guests. Order up some room service, then take them to an aquarium or other local attractions.

3- Visit a Museum

Most areas have art museums, so if your child enjoys the arts, they’re sure to love having a birthday gathering at a museum. There are even some specialty museums all over the country. Do your research, see about taking a day trip, and bring along a few people your teen would love to spend the day with.

4- Go to a Rage Room

Many people need some physical outlet for their anxiety and pent-up energy. Even though you don’t normally want to encourage breaking things, a rage room is a great place to go. There are a variety of things you can do, such as car smashing and paint splatter. Many allow young teens and even pre-teens to visit and go wild. It’s a safe place where you are encouraged to let go without getting into trouble.

5- Take a Cooking Class/Demonstration

If your teenager wants to learn how to cook more, have them attend a cooking class for their special day. You can possibly get a group rate to attend a pre-existing class, or see if there’s a restaurant, arts center, or similar place that lets you secure their services for a private event.

6- Host a Bonfire Backyard Party

If you have a decent-sized yard and your town allows backyard fires, a bonfire party is perfect. You can invite more people than if you were throwing a party in an enclosed space. Get supplies for S’mores and hot chocolate, as well as other things that are great to cook over a fire.

7- Rent a Food Truck

There’s one thing that is sure to be a hit with teens – a food truck. Hire a food truck to park on your property or wherever you’re hosting the party. It should have a good variety of foods, but ultimately you’ll want to get a truck that has your child’s favorite type of food.

8- Turn Camping into Glamping

Glamping is like camping, except it’s more glamorous. Rent or set up your tent in your yard, put together some string lights, lots of pillows, and blankets to make it cozy and set a table with decor and easy-to-prepare foods ideal for a sleepover. You can also rent a projector to show a few movies.
