Audits revealed that almost $900,000.00 of the $1.13 Million in COVID-19 funds received by West Haven, Connecticut were used on items not eligible or did not have sufficient documentation. Auditors did not inspect $600,000.0 in COVID-19 relief funds that were received by West Haven, Connecticut. These funds are currently the subject of federal fraud charges. Michael DiMassa (former Democratic state Rep.) and John Bernardo (former business associate to the council were arrested in October for wire fraud. Prosecutors claimed they stole $600,000.00 in COVID-19 money by fraudulently submitting invoices to the City through a company that they created.
