MSNBC’s Joy Reid Says World Cares About Ukraine Because It’s ‘White’ And ‘Christian’

MSNBC host Joy Reid said on Monday that she believes the world cares more about the conflict in Ukraine than other conflicts because it’s a European nation populated mostly by whites and Christians.

Reid made her remarks on her program “The ReidOut.”

MSNBC Provides Critical Race Theory for Ukraine War

Reid complained that there was a “radical disparity” in how foreign conflicts are covered by media, with Ukrainians being presented as more “human” compared to their “browner and blacker counterparts” in other poor situations globally.

Reid began her argument by noting the U.S.-backed Saudi Arabian War on Yemen. This war has caused catastrophic humanitarian issues and killed hundreds of thousands.

She said, “As the world watches the devastation unfold in Ukraine, nearly 4,000 miles away, another crisis is deepening that we don’t hear much about in the U.S., and that is the war in Yemen.”

“The coverage of Ukraine has revealed a pretty radical disparity in how human Ukrainians look and feel to western media compared to their browner and blacker counterparts, with some reporters using very telling comparisons in their analyses of the war,” Reid added.

Reid stated that this discrepancy in media coverage was due to one factor: Race.

“Let’s face it, the world is paying attention because this is happening in Europe,” Reid said. “If this was happening anywhere else would we see the same outpouring of support and compassion?”

“We don’t need to ask ourselves if the international response would be the same if Russia unleashed their horror on a country that wasn’t white and largely Christian, because Russia has already done it, in Syria” the MSNBC host claimed.

Reid was referring to Russia militarily aiding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Get involved in the fight against rebellion in that country’s civil war.

Reid Says Media Needs To Do ‘Soul-Searching’

“This is a teachable moment for us in the media,” Reid said. “We aren’t afraid to call out our own industry.”

“There is a lot of soul-searching that we need to do in Western media about why some wars and lives seem to matter more than others,” Reid insisted.

This suggestion could be an interesting change for mainstream media.
