Three counts of hate speech were brought against Paivi Rasanen, a Finnish Parliament member. She was accused of making comments about homosexuality. A tweet that she sent asking why Finland’s Lutheran Church officially supported Pride week in Finland is being cited by the government. A tweet contained an image that included Bible verses condemning homosexual acts. A 2004 pamphlet by her church that outlines the traditional Christian view of sexuality was also considered evidence. Rasanen will be sentenced to prison if she is convicted. But, the prosecution said it will seek a fine.
