Nigel Scullion, Australian Minister for Indigenous Affairs, calls Vegemite (a food made with brewer’s yeast) a “precursor of misery”, and should be limited. Scullion explained that Vegemite has been used in large quantities to make moonshine and beer in areas where alcohol is banned. Scullion stated that those communities need to ban Vegemite. There is no way for the residents of these communities to get brewer’s yeast, if they don’t have it in their local shops.
