An assortment of lawmakers and top cabinet officials attended Washington D.C.’s Gridiron Club dinner, held in its first year since 2019. The dinner saw at least 72 people receive COVID-19.
That includes Attorney General Merrick Garland, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Sen. Susan Collins (R–Maine), Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, and Rep. Adam Schiff (D–Calif. To name a few,
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also tested positive, two days after attending a packed event at White House with former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden. According to College FixPelosi took a picture with Georgetown University President John DeGioia recently, and he is positive for COVID-19.
Some students at Georgetown aren’t thrilled with DeGioia, who was clearly enjoying himself, maskless, out and about—but has now brought back the campus’s mask mandate after getting rid of it just a month ago. In total, Georgetown has had three weeks of optional masking. A protest was made by students last week. American University, George Washington University now follow suit to bring back mask mandates.
Mother Jones Tom Philpott writes that recent cases of high-profile individuals contracting COVID-10, and superspreader events like the Gridiron Club dinner, “shows that we can’t just go back to normal.”
They actually demonstrate that You You can’t go back to normal. On the contrary, the political elites are simply going back to normal. They’ll penalize the people if they see it as a rise in cases, but not to expect them make many social sacrifices. The policymakers are happy to continue doing their jobs. Restrictions can be easily reinstated at any time for everyone.
Kamala Harris was caught recently ignoring mask rules. Jen Psaki (White House press secretary) defended Harris thusly.
She’s only human—That’s why we have this excuse. Aren’t all of us? Why is it that only government officials can do this?
