On Friday, HBO’s Bill Maher slammed the Russiagate narrative, asking, “If Putin thought Trump was really that supportive of him, why didn’t he invade when Trump was in office?”
Maher made his remarks on his program “Real Time.”
Maher: “If Putin thought Trump was really that supportive of him, why didn’t he invade when Trump was in office? It’s at least worth asking that question if you’re not locked into one intransigent thought.” https://t.co/fCSQ3LqF5E

Maher: ‘Why didn’t he invade when Trump was in office?’
The left-leaning Maher attacked the sacred cows of both the right and the left in his final monologue.
Maher said, “Watching the reactions to war in Ukraine these past few weeks, it’s become obvious that America in this age suffers acutely from a particular disease of the mind, which is: everything proves what we already believed, and everything goes back to the thing we already hate. … So, naturally, Republicans blamed Ukraine on Biden being the worst president ever, and Democrats blamed it on Trump’s being the worst president ever, which he was, there is that.”
Maher raised an obvious question that few media outlets would address.
“If Putin thought Trump was really that supportive of him, why didn’t he invade when Trump was in office?” Maher asked. “It’s at least worth asking that question if you’re not locked into one, intransigent thought.”

Maher: ‘Ukraine is not mostly about your pet grievances. It’s about Vladimir Putin’s, and Putin is bad, very, very, very bad.’
Maher criticized Trump for saying Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was about the supposedly “rigged” 2020 presidential election in the U.S. and also took issue with those who want to tie issues like race, LGBTQ rights, and cancel culture into discussion about the Ukraine conflict.
“Ukraine is not mostly about your pet grievances,” Maher finished. “It’s about Vladimir Putin’s, and Putin is bad, very, very, very bad.”
But fear not – if you thought the left wouldn’t have an answer to Maher’s question, a quick search of social media will show you many variations on this argument: Putin didn’t invade because Trump was doing all of Putin’s bidding! It’s merely happenstance that Putin invaded different countries during the presidencies of George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden – but not Trump:
Bill Maher thinks it’s “worth asking” why Putin didn’t invade while Trump was in office?
Simple:
Trump was seeking a second term to pull the US from NATO in order to strike Ukraine without US support. He also wanted to have an EU and European Community that were completely disorganized.

Another left-leaning comedian, Trevor Noah of “The Daily Show,” argued last week that Saudi Arabia’s reported snub of President Biden would have “never” happened to Donald Trump.
