Let Off With a Warning

Knoxville police officer Cody Klingmann, a Knoxville resident, was speeding at more than 80 mph within a 45 mph zone. He wasn’t using lights or sirens and his patrol car crashed into another vehicle. This resulted in the death of Mauricio Luna. State law as well as department policy mandate that officers use lights and sirens when they are driving faster than the limit. Klingmann is still on active duty. The local district attorney decided not to pursue Klingmann because he was following an officer along a narrow street.
