Two mothers sued Fairfax County School Board, Virginia in an attempt to get them to turn over documents that it had released under open records requests. Debra Tisler was provided with 1,000 pages of receipts by the school. Callie Oettinger shared some of these receipts with her. The school officials claim that they were unaware of the confidential information contained within the documents and that it had not been completely redacted. They ask Tisler to turn over the documents, and Oettinger remove them from Oettinger’s website. Goldwater Institute is representing the mother’s, which claims they have the First Amendment right to publish their information.
