Brigitte Barrot, an actress and activist for animal rights, has been fined by the French island of Reunion ($23,000 U.S.). She described some of its residents as “degenerate wild animals” in a slap on the face. Bardot called the Hindu Tamil inhabitants of Reunion “a degenerate popula still soaked in barbarous ancient traditions” and singled them out for having sacrificed goats during religious ceremonies.
