What to Bring With You on Whitewater Rafting Adventures
When you go on a whitewater rafting adventure in Jackson Hole, you will be out on the water and in the rapids. There are a few things you are going to want to bring with you.
Protection from the sun. Regardless of the temperature, the sun can still shine so you will want to take steps to protect yourself. This includes things like sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats. Not only does this protect your skin, but it will keep the sun out of your eyes.
Bug spray. If you are prone to bug bites, you may want to consider adding bug spray to your bag. It is always a good thing to have on hand.
Water. Although water may be provided to you, it is always smart to bring your own. Those who take pride in the Snake River excursions try to do their part in reducing waste in the natural area, such as removing the excessive use of plastic bottles. If you can, bring your own.
Is Food Allowed on Whitewater Rafting Adventures?
You are likely still wondering about the most important thing – food. Can you bring food on your whitewater rafting adventure in Jackson Hole? While you are always allowed to bring snacks with you, they may have to remain securely packed in the van until it is time to eat.
In some of the booked adventures, lunch may actually be provided. These lunches will be commercially prepared and will be eaten on the boat. While the lunch may vary depending on which company you choose for your adventure, at Teton Expeditions you can expect to be served a lunch that is prepared fresh daily. It may include the following or something similar:
- A turkey and cheddar sandwich
- Chips
- Homemade cookies
- Apples
- Thai broccoli salad
- Fruit salad
If you follow a special diet or require special accommodations, you can bring your own snacks and food. Again, however, they will likely need to be kept in the van until it is time to eat.
Whitewater Rafting: Things to Know
It is always a good idea to know a few things before you head out on your whitewater rafting adventure – especially if this is your first time. And since this is a popular activity amongst those visiting the area, be sure to book your fun in advance so that you don’t miss out.
You should show up with the expectation that you will be leaving wet. Whitewater rafting is much different than a leisurely float along the river – and you will get very wet. Therefore, when you plan your water adventure, plan on wearing the right clothing.
Wear closed-toe shoes or see if you can rent some water booties. Any flip flops, sandals, slides, and Crocs are at great risk for making it into the river as you go through the rapids. Not only do you not want to lose your shoes, but littering, whether intentional or not, is frowned upon.
Expect to encounter different forms of wildlife along the Snake River. You may spot a bald eagle, osprey, moose, fox, elk, marmot, and more.
If you aren’t sure whether or not you should bring something with you or have questions about how to be prepared, always reach out to your guide ahead of time.
