First In The U.S., TX National Guard To Start Arresting Illegals On Southern Border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has taken some unprecedented steps to stem the illegal immigration crisis engulfing the Texas border – the Texas National Guard is now arresting illegal immigrants who cross the border.

It’s a novel approach, both for the forces used – the National Guard – and for the legal charge being applied: trespassing.

The National Guard troops aren’t alone, either. During the crisis, nearly 1,000 Texas Department of Public Safety Officers (DPS), are supporting them.

As the illegal immigration surge continues, the Texas governor suggested that there might be a greater role for the National Guard.

This is an unprecedented move

Steven McGraw, Texas DPS Director explained the process of implementing the National Guard.

The initial arrests will be made by approximately 3000 Guard members, who will then deploy around 3,000 Guard personnel.

The detained are handed over to DPS officers who then indict and conduct any investigations. McGraw spoke about the latest aspects of Operation Lone Star.

“Nobody’s ever really used the guard before in this capacity. We’re going to use them to Actually secure the border. Governor, legislature and citizens Texas made it clear: they want the border secured. This is also good news for our federal partner. The federal government should be thanking the state of Texas, and it’ll make the rest of the country safer as we increase the level of security.”

Operation Lone Star: What’s it all about?

Gov. Abbott began Operation Lone Star back in March as an answer to the Biden administration’s refusal to enforce the border. The Border Patrol is also assisted by Texas Rangers and state troopers.

It has been extended to also include the construction of fencing and border barriers.

Texas is Preparing for The Worst

In the wake of around 15,000 Haitian immigrants recently making their way into Texas and creating an encampment under the international bridge in Del Rio, Texans are bracing for another ‘migrant caravan’ of around 60,000 who are headed towards Texas.

Abbott stated that illegal immigration is increasing and said so during an appearance on Fox News Channel. He also claimed that the Mexican cartels are becoming more aggressive. They even shot at National Guard soldiers stationed near Roma in Texas.

He added, “This is escalating into a firing war on each side of the border where Texas and our National Guard are having to defend themselves and defend the state of Texas.”

According to the DPS, they have identified 23 “high priority” problem areas that are currently being focused on.

DPS Director McGraw says that, “The governor’s objective is to prevent people and illicit drugs from illegally entering Texas between the ports of entry as opposed to responding to it afterward.”
