Now Democrats Are Issuing Subpoenas For January 6 Rally Organizers

In a serious escalation, the Jan. 6 Select Committee‘s Chair Benny Thompson announced that subpoenas to appear before the committee would go out to the organizers of the peaceful rally near the White House that featured sitting President Donald Trump.

The rally, billed as “Stop the Steal,” was to gather people who believed the 2020 presidential election was riddled with fraud.

The Capitol was later attacked by violence as the election results were being counted.

Who the Committee wants to hear from

Nathan Martin and Ali Alexander are being sought by the Jan.6 Committee. These two men are related to the application for permits to rally.

Axios reports that Alexander was the subject of information that had been released by the committee.

“made repeated reference during Stop-the-Steal-sponsored events to the possible use of violence to achieve the organization’s goals and claimed to have been in communication with the White House and Members of Congress regarding events planned to coincide with the certification of the 2020 Electoral College results.”

Stop the Steal LLC is an entity associated with the rally. The committee also requests records.

Alexander and Martin will be testifying on October 28th, 29th.

Protecting Subpoenas: The Chair of the Committee

Thompson, Committee Chair, supported the necessity for testimony by the organizers who had granted permits.

Thompson stated in a press release, “The rally on the Capitol grounds on January 6th, like the rally near the White House that day, immediately preceded the violent attack on the seat of our democracy.”

“Over the course of that day, demonstrations escalated to violence and protestors became rioters. The Select Committee must have all information about what happened before and after the attack. This includes who organized them, how they were funded, etc. We expect these witnesses to cooperate fully with our probe.”

Media outlet Politico is referring to the event as the “pre-insurrection rally,” though there is no evidence the two events are connected.

Some people don’t comply with subpoenas

Unfortunately, not all of the members will be available to answer questions. According to reports, four ex-aides of President Trump have allegedly defied subpoenas. They will therefore not be attending the hearings.

The Guardian reports that former White House Chief Of Staff Mark Meadows and ex-advisor Steve Bannon will oppose subpoenas.

However, in the usual twist of irony that often accompanies Democrat action, while Committee Chair Rep. Thompson is investigating what is being called an “insurrection,” Thompson might have some knowledge about insurrection.

In the early 1970’s Thompson was an alderman in a small Missisippi town. Thompson supported a separatist group known as the Republic of New Africa, (RNA) and he was openly supportive of it.

Thompson also blamed local law enforcement officers for confrontations with the group, which resulted both in one police officer being shot and another receiving injuries.
