Seattle Police report a 33-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning after he allegedly rammed a stolen truck into the exit gate of a parking garage at Swedish Medical Center and continued to cause destruction inside.

Police report officers were responding to a report of a possibly impaired driving near Boren Avenue and Cherry Street around 12:30 a.m. Jan. 9, when security from Swedish reported the driver of a white pickup had gained access to the secured parking garage in the 1100 block of Madison street.

The driver reportedly rammed an exit gate, struck a parked car and then re-entered the garage with what police report was a stolen vehicle. Police report the driver then struck two more parked vehicle.

Arriving officers found the man driving in circles up and down the exit ramps, according to a police blotter post. Spike strips were deployed, flattening the man’s tires, but he continued driving the pickup, according to the report.

“The suspect eventually parked the truck and turned up the stereo. Officers could see that the man was naked,” the report states. “The suspect armed himself with a hammer and smashed out the windows of another vehicle inside the garage, got in and spray painted the windows in an effort to conceal himself.”

SWAT officers and police negotiators responded, but the driver reportedly ignored their attempts to speak with him.

Police report the man returned to the pickup and attempted to flee, but was blocked in by SWAT vehicles.

The report states the man was tased outside the truck around 4 a.m. and taken into custody.

After being taken to the hospital, the man was booked into King County Jail for burglary, auto theft, possession of stolen property, malicious mischief, DUI and hit-and-run.
