Democrats Support School Choice, But Only For Themselves, Not For You

It was an awful thing to witness the COVID-19 epidemic. Millions were killed, thousands of businesses shut down and many closed permanently. American children suffered a loss of education due to these lockdowns.

But one good thing that came from the pandemic was the ability of parents to look over their kids’ shoulders to see what was going on in the classroom.

They were given a direct look at not only what was being learned, but also the consequences of it. Not Being taught.

Comparing public schools with private ones

Advocates of school choice argue that school vouchers can level the playing fields and allow children to choose a school they like.

Idealerweise, you can use dollars for homeschooling and charter schools.

The ACLU and teacher unions are strong opponents to the Democrat Party. They argue that taxpayer money should not be used to fund private schools. Most Democrats strongly oppose school choice.

However, as so often happens, the words they speak and their actions are very different. While Democrat elected officials deny low-income kids a chance at a better education, the nation’s pricy private schools are filled with the children of those officials.

It’s OK for Me, But Not for You

Who are these politicians who feel this way? Their children are entitled to a better education than yours just because they have “Rep.,” Senator,” or even “President” in front of their name and more zeroes in their bank account? You might be wrong, but they’re exactly what you believe they are.

Chelsea, the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton, attended Sidwell Friends School in New York. Hillary flipped on the school choice.

Malia Obama and Sasha Obama both attended Sidwell School, although their father President Barack Obama opposed it.

Former President Joe Biden was a student at the exclusive Catholic school Archmere Academy, Delaware. He also sent his sons Beau (and Hunter) there. The cost of tuition is in the $30,000.

Biden spoke out against school choice

Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepchildren attended Wildwood School, also very private and very elite. Parents will pay approximately $44,000 for tuition fees. As a Senator, Harris voted against Trump Education Secretary Betsy Devos’ confirmation as Secretary specifically because she supported school vouchers.

Nancy Pelosi was raised in Baltimore and attended a Catholic all-girls high school. Her son Paul went to Episcopal High School in Virginia. This boarding school costs almost $65,000 per annum.

Pelosi voted in opposition to the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results Reauthorization Bill 2015

Elizabeth Warren, Sen. of Massachusetts sent her son to a school for private education when he started fifth grade. She released an education plan in 2019 that was strongly anti-school choice. It included ending programs that help low-income families.

Fighting Back

Some parents have reacted against hypocrisy by supporting Republican Governors, such as Ron DeSantis from Florida. DeSantis, in May 2021 signed HB7045. It makes it easier for children to apply for scholarships.

The bill was again opposed by the Florida Senate Democrats almost immediately after it was introduced. In a statement, they stated, “By signing this bill into law, Gov. DeSantis is taking Floridians’ hard-earned tax dollars and diverting them out of public schools.”

Well, yes, that’s the idea.

DeSantis responded saying the funds are “not going to any institution, it’s going to the parents, to give them the ability to make decisions about their children’s education.”

In November, parents will have the opportunity to express their opinions about Democrats voting to deny their children access to the same education that Democrats demand for their own.

It is now that you can support, share, and encourage the people whom you have faith.
