Kansas City’s police department agreed to $900,000. This was to settle the lawsuit filed by Tyree bell, who was 15 years old in 2016, when he was held for three weeks on suspicion of committing a crime that he didn’t commit. Police responded to calls that three men of color were hiding in a corner holding guns. Officers arrived and one suspect fled. He ran away, and officers chased him. They saw Bell shortly after and pulled him over. They took Bell into custody for a 24 hour “investigative stay” despite the fact that he was longer than the suspect and was wearing a different style of hair. He was eventually released after being held for 24 hours.
