Curb Your Enthusiasm

Curb Your Enthusiasm is back for its eleventh season of Larry David, playing a semi-fictionalized version of himself, interrogating why we must remain shackled by society’s arbitrary social rules.

David now turns his attention towards local politics for this season. The seventh episode is a shining example of his antipathy towards other people. While canvassing for a candidate for mayor, he makes absurd claims like that the candidate will prohibit children younger than 10 years old from eating in restaurants. It’s a feast for the eyes.

While other TV shows may be afraid to admit politics is what it truly is, Curb It’s all about pleasing the masses, no matter what means. David is only interested in gaining favor from those who could repeal the fence ordinance. Peeved at having to line up to vote, David suggests to someone else that they leave the country, because their votes would cancel one another. David’s favorite candidate loses one vote in an unusual twist for TV. The pitchfork-wielding crowd of supporters then turns against David.

David’s self-interest is evident in politics as well as other areas. He seeks shortcuts. However, the rest of us are just as selfish and look for ways to hide it.
