New York City public high school wrestlers will not be able to participate in the state championships or other high-stakes events where college coaches might see them. The reason is that high school wrestling teams cannot compete in tournaments due to city policy. This applies even if all of the wrestlers have been vaccinated. State tournaments take place in other places than New York City that don’t require vaccinations. New York City also requires that all indoor wrestlers wear masks. According to coaches at high schools, the policy has helped reduce the number of wrestlers who are interested in joining the team.
