Bipartisan Effort In Michigan Pushing For National Popular Vote To Replace Electoral College

Michigan’s former Chairmen of both the Democrat-Republican parties are preparing signatures to support the circumvention of the Electoral College for presidential elections. They also plan to join an interstate pact that awards votes to the winner.

Detroit Free Press hails this bipartisan effort by Mark Brewer, former Democrat Chair and Saul Anuzis, former Republican Chair.

A “Yes on National Popular Vote” petition has been granted approval by the Board of State Canvassers.

To advance the proposal, supporters will need to collect 340.047 signatures

Liberals Support Popular Vote, But Want Electoral College To Be Ditched

Washington, D.C., and 15 additional states have passed legislation to join this compact, which accounts for 195 out of 538 votes in the Electoral College. Michigan would add 210 votes.

All 16 of these states voted for Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign. Most importantly of all, these 16 states voted for Hillary Clinton at the 2016 election. This was also the first time since 2000 that the popular winner didn’t win the Electoral College.

The popular vote is supported because it allows states like California or New York to have greater control over the nation and have more influence when selecting the President.

New York is a microcosm of this – former Governor Andrew Cuomo won election every cycle because he captured areas such as Long Island, New York City, and areas in Buffalo, while the majority of the state overwhelmingly rejected him. These areas control what happens in the entire state, much to the detriment of upstate New York.

Abolishing the Electoral College would amplify that process nationwide and is a position taken by extremists who dare to claim the wisdom behind their efforts far exceeds that of the Founding Fathers.

This effort stems from two things – bitterness and ignorance.

It generates almost exclusively from the left’s unwillingness to accept the results of the 2016 election – if not the 2000 election – as well as the desire to upend the Electoral College being put in place to prevent large pockets of the population from deciding elections for the entire country.

Always looking to change the rules

As integral as the 2016 election is in driving liberals mad over the Electoral College, it’s also rather amusing that part of the failure of the Clinton campaign that year involved a push to garner more of the popular vote instead of actually trying to win the election.

Former President Donald Trump physically campaigned in key battleground states while Clinton’s advisers dumped millions of dollars into Democrat strongholds in an attempt to run up the popular vote tally.

Seriously, that’s what they did.

Since then, media liberals have been pushing hard for change.

CNN anchor Don Lemon stated that America must destroy the whole system.

“We’re going to have to blow up the entire system,” Lemon charged, something even colleague Chris Cuomo refused to concede.

Joy Behar was cohost on The View and suggested that the Electoral College be altered before the 2020 elections because she feared a Trump win.

“I think it’s ridiculous that a few states, a handful of states, determine my future. It’s ridiculous, so why bother voting in the rest of the country?” she whined. “They need to change the Electoral College as soon as possible.”

All of these are possible with the national popular vote. Countries will determine our future.

Kayleigh McEnany was a former White House Press Secretary. She argued that Democrats love to modify the rules when it loses, while Republicans keep the system the same.

“We fight to protect the Constitution when Democrats say outright we are going to blow up the entire system because we do not get our way,” she said.
