New York City Judge Tamiko Amakar overturned Jason Serrano’s 2018 conviction for resisting arrest. Bodycam footage showed that one of his officers appeared to have planted marijuana inside the vehicle Serrano was riding in. Serrano was charged for drug possession, resisting arrest and obstruction. To avoid jail, he pleaded guilty resisting arrest. After the plea, the video was not turned over to Serrano’s attorney. Tamiko also looked at the records of both officers who had arrested Serrano. Kyle Erickson was one of the officers who were disciplined in 2018 due to invoice discrepancies relating to drug seizures.  The records were not turned over to Seranno by the prosecutor. These records were discovered through an open record request made by local media.
