The Volunteer Park Trust is hosting an open house 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 6, to show the community it schematic design for a new amphitheater set to replace the old one in the park.
Planned to replace the 1971 brick and concrete structure at the park and excite more performance companies to use the venue, the new amphitheater is the first major project undertaking by the Volunteer Park Trust.
The amphitheater will be sited to the north of the current location, allowing for the restoration of a west pathway that had been included in the original park trail designed by the Olmsted Brothers.
A retractable partition is also planned for the new amphitheater, creating more of a public pavilion when performances are not taking place.
The open house takes place in the Volunteer Park Conservatory, 1247 15th Ave. E., and will include update by Owen Richards with ORA Architects and members of the Volunteer Park Trust.
